too many roosters!

I have kept quiet long enough. Anyone who knows me knows I run a very fiscally responsible barn. All our eggs are kept in different baskets . I know who to pay, what to pay and how I am going to pay for it .I buy hay only when there is not enough scraps from our restaurant. The only pork is in our pigs and I am not giving them to anybody. Our leaders in Washington are driving me batty( and we do not have any of those flying rodents in our barn, although I wish we did , they eat the pests and disease carriers .....maybe we should send some to Washington)  The other  hens and I were chirping away and  we realized what the problem is.There are way to many roosters running the roost. We need more hens in charge and we need them now!!! It is time to get rid of all those cock....amanie roosters and we got to do it before its too late.Oh well thats enough chicken scratch  Wicked Out

Looking for things to do?!

There are many things to do here in the Great Northern Catskill Mountains!!  Did you know there is a new mountain bike trail?  I was on it just the other day.  It is called the F.U.N. Loop.  That is.... where the inspiration for my, " Wicked Fast", bike shirt came from.  The loop is located off of Route 23, next to the hiking trail head, about 3 miles out of Windham.  I have also been Hiking....well to be honest , I fly and my animal friend hike.  I usually go with the goats or horses, they make good time.  The pot belly pigs seem to always have a low clearance problem.   They say they are just built for comfort...Anyway...We have some great swimming holes also.  North and South Lake, Colgate Lake and right below Prat Rock in Prattsville, are all great places to swim. Minekill State Park is only 30 minutes away or 12 minutes by the way a chicken flys.  If you would like direction or information to these and any other places, e-mail me, facebook me or stop by  The Catskill Mountain Country Store.  Wicked out!

Chicks return home...

I am sure it is the same in the human world...  You raise your chicks to have character and do the right thing... and then they start to leave the nest...only for days...then weeks, off to camps...yes, animals do go to camps...how do you think those roosters learn to strut like that.  Horse camp...you think that is for he people?...No...anyway...some of my chicks just came home after an extended time away.  I am very happy for their return.  I over heard a costumer talking about her kids leaving and having an empty nest.  Funny how humans have stolen so many sayings from us animals!!  I wanted to tell her, no worries... every time in life has a purpose...enjoy, reflect and relax!  As an older chick , I have had many an empty nest, in the barn yard it does not stay that way for long....those darn roosters!!!   Enough chicken scratch... Wicked out!

Local Sweet Corn

Local Sweet Corn is here....Butter and Sugar, Super Sweet 100 and Yes, Candy Corn... It's not the kind you eat on Halloween...  although I must admit, even I, a chicken with discriminating taste and an extremely refined palette, likes candy corn.  But, nothing beats the real thing.  Drew or Natasha will be picking it up every morning from the farm!  Picked Fresh.  And to melt all over your sweet corn, we also have local butter, made in Jefferson, New York.  The company's name is Cowbella.  They make butter and delicious yogurt.  Their web address is www.cowbella.com  Well, I am not only the official spokes chicken....but, the official taster...and I going for the Candy Corn!! Water...we need water!

Wow...it has been very, very hot outside!  My barn is much cooler! Natasha put a box fan in yesterday...the pigs were complaining.  You know they can't sweat and do not have great feathers like us birds... and need to lose a few pounds...anyway... they were extremely hot!  Now they are loving life in front of the fan.  Remember, when it is this hot to check on your animals regularly.  Make sure they have fresh water everyday and a place in the shade.  If you are hot and thirst your animals are too!  Stay cool!  Wicked out!

Great Fireworks!!!

What a blast!  Literary....   here in the barn yard we enjoy a good show!  And last nights fireworks were great.  It tends to be a little late for us animals...we are early risers.  Some of us a little to early...Elvis!!! That is a fellow chicken ...not the singer.  Although he has quite the voice.  We have a lot of talent and good looks in this barn yard, so come on by and visit.  The gardens are very beautiful around the store; except for the on the rabbits keep eating!  I flew up to the water fall it is raging...come and enjoy.  have a sunny day and don't forget the sun screen.  Wicked out!

Two by Two

Wicked here...  The weather man said intermittent showers... we are ready to start walking two by two...Noah where are you.....everything is flooded around the barn!  Drew and Natasha have to plan the barn raising soon!   If you would like to join in building my new barn, let me know!  We are very dry and cozy inside, for now.  The pigs have a nice pile of ceder shavings, the goats are happy as can be, up on there hay, the horses are running around enjoying the rain...not very smart...the bunnies are all snuggled together and us birds are roostin' up high.
High and dry!  The weather man says tomorrow should be dry...we will see!  They are only intermittently correct!  Enough chicken scratch for to day!  Wicked out!
