I am back!!!

I finally have wi-fi in my barn again.....Actually, I am staying with the pigs, the floating pigs...up in the shed that was found after the flood.   It is high and dry.   I do have a complaint!!!!   We have not had many scraps from the restaurant, lately.   Pleases come by the Catskill Mountain Country Store and eat half your meal and leave the rest for the animals.  The Catskill Mountain Country Store is open for business and better then ever....as is the Town of Windham!!!!   We need every bodies support!  Wicked out!

Hi World!!!...from my beat up barn in Windham NY...I thought I needed a new barn before!!!  That Irene was not very nice, to put it mildly...  But out of bad .... comes good...  I always look up...now that is not because I am a smallish chicken,  but because I have a positive attitude....Irene was very scary though...Us chickens are smart we flew up in the rafters, Natasha shooed the goats to safety , but the pigs stood there ground and refused to leave the barn.  Natasha had to wait until the water was thigh deep and she floated the pigs out to safety.  Yes fat floats!  There's been so many new faces volunteering in town, but they are all covered in mud, you would not know who they are if you saw them all cleaned up,  They are Wonderful!!! The Shusters are trying very hard to get the store up and running again.  I know they will.  Their target date is Saturday Sept. 24.  Gotta get some sleep the roosters crow even earlier these days...Wicked out!

MUMS the word

Yes....Mums...Colorful, beautiful fall mums...  We have so many delightful colors and sizes.   We also have these great mums with Feather Reed Grass in them.  They look really amazing...and taste even better.  I got caught pecking at the seeds on the top of the grass....oops I am sorry I got caught.   Well...there have been some great scraps lately,  We had a special in the restaurant...Pumpkin Pancakes with sauteed peaches and blueberries.  Most people cleared their plates!!!!...but I still found some in the scrap buckets.  The local blueberries, strawberries, yes, strawberries, corn, lettuce, tomatoes and many other fruits and veggies are all at their peak!  Come in and get some!  Enjoy the Day!   Well...the Warriors, the Brats and Brew Festival goers and the people that enjoyed the Greek Festival have gone home...It was a great weekend!!!  The weather held out, the festivities were exciting and the people were wonderful!!! I love being the spokes chicken for The Catskill Mountain Country Store...I get the chance to meet so many of those wonderful people!   The Irish Festival is coming up this weekend at Hunter Mountain.  This festival is really invigorating...I can do a mean Irish gig and an even better chicken dance!!!   PEOPLE doing the chicken dance....now that is something to see!!   Sydney and Gus will be selling their Fudge and Donuts at The Irish Festival....maybe I will make a surprise visit!!!  Hope to see you there!  Wicked out!

Wild Warriors!

They are coming!!!  The Warriors that is...This weekend is Warrior Dash at Windham Mountain.  What is that you ask?  It is when crazy people run up a hill, slide in mud , run through fire, craw through tunnels, craw over things, swim in gross ponds...you get thew idea.  Natasha, she runs in it, says it is great fun and there is wonderful camaraderie... .... you would hope so ...since the people are slobbering and sweating all over each other... sounds very silly for a sophisticated chicken such as myself !  AND... the people put on hats that make them look like buffalo.  They think they look like warriors...o.k.  At the end you get a beer, that may be refreshing.  There will also be lots of music, great costumes and just plain fun at Windham Mountain this weekend.  Looking forward to it!  Wicked Out!

A Beautiful Day

I woke very early to day... those roosters, can't let an old chick sleep in.  But, I am glad they woke me up.  The weather looks wonderful.  Small chance of thunderstorms in the late afternoon....   Stop by the store and enjoy a walk in our gardens and come and see all the animals.    And....  I was sitting on the deck yesterday and saw Drew bring in fresh figs, extra large 9 row cherries, local corn, lettuce tomatoes... I am hoping people don't clear their plates and there are lots of scrapes...but even if the costumers eat every morsel,  we are treated so well here at The Catskill Mountain Country Store.  I can't wait to taste those figs... Wicked out!

Watchin' the Chicks

Well... after I pecked that title ...I thought someone may think the wrong thing... Well, as I say ..there is nothing wrong with watching or looking...just stay on your own roost!  But, I am crowing about my chicks , the little ones.  As I was watching them scratch in the dirt and learn to fly, I got all sentimental.  I wanted to freeze that moment in time!  It goes so fast.  Even faster for us chickens.  I try and spend tons of time with my chicks. They already want to play with the peacocks, turkeys and even the pigs.  The pigs don't do much playing...but they do root up some good bugs!  I am going to spend the afternoon scratching in the dirt, picken' bugs and flying around with my chicks.  Hopefully you can too!  Wicked out!

Cool Breezes

What a beautiful Day here at The Catskill Mountain Country Store!!!  The sun is warm and there is a great breeze.....  There are many things going on this weekend in the great Northern Catskills!  The Bataviakill Steam Festival is happening on Sat Aug 6th at The Country Suite in Ashland.  The Windham Arts Alliance has their Art Feat this weekend at various locations though out Windham.  Right in the center of town there is The Civil War Encampment...that is always really interesting...except when the solider was talking about cooking chicken on an open fire.  Cooking chicken is never good...that is to a chicken!!!   Tour of the Catskills takes off Aug. 5th  and rikes through to Aug. 7th.  Make sure you give the cyclist some room on the road.  If you have any questions or need more information on the things going on.  Give me a chirp!!!  Enjoy the day...Wicked out!

too many roosters!

I have kept quiet long enough. Anyone who knows me knows I run a very fiscally responsible barn. All our eggs are kept in different baskets . I know who to pay, what to pay and how I am going to pay for it .I buy hay only when there is not enough scraps from our restaurant. The only pork is in our pigs and I am not giving them to anybody. Our leaders in Washington are driving me batty( and we do not have any of those flying rodents in our barn, although I wish we did , they eat the pests and disease carriers .....maybe we should send some to Washington)  The other  hens and I were chirping away and  we realized what the problem is.There are way to many roosters running the roost. We need more hens in charge and we need them now!!! It is time to get rid of all those cock....amanie roosters and we got to do it before its too late.Oh well thats enough chicken scratch  Wicked Out

Looking for things to do?!

There are many things to do here in the Great Northern Catskill Mountains!!  Did you know there is a new mountain bike trail?  I was on it just the other day.  It is called the F.U.N. Loop.  That is.... where the inspiration for my, " Wicked Fast", bike shirt came from.  The loop is located off of Route 23, next to the hiking trail head, about 3 miles out of Windham.  I have also been Hiking....well to be honest , I fly and my animal friend hike.  I usually go with the goats or horses, they make good time.  The pot belly pigs seem to always have a low clearance problem.   They say they are just built for comfort...Anyway...We have some great swimming holes also.  North and South Lake, Colgate Lake and right below Prat Rock in Prattsville, are all great places to swim. Minekill State Park is only 30 minutes away or 12 minutes by the way a chicken flys.  If you would like direction or information to these and any other places, e-mail me, facebook me or stop by  The Catskill Mountain Country Store.  Wicked out!

Got Nothin'

Did you ever have one of those days...when you are so tired that you can not think?   It happens to animals too!   I am very hot and so is the rest of the barn yard.  We are staying in the barn in front of fan and laying low.
I know The Catskill Mountain Country Store has some great homemade iced tea and lemonade.  Also fresh fruit smoothies...yum!   Nice and Cool.  Have a Wicked cool night!  Wicked out!

Chicks return home...

I am sure it is the same in the human world...  You raise your chicks to have character and do the right thing... and then they start to leave the nest...only for days...then weeks, off to camps...yes, animals do go to camps...how do you think those roosters learn to strut like that.  Horse camp...you think that is for he people?...No...anyway...some of my chicks just came home after an extended time away.  I am very happy for their return.  I over heard a costumer talking about her kids leaving and having an empty nest.  Funny how humans have stolen so many sayings from us animals!!  I wanted to tell her, no worries... every time in life has a purpose...enjoy, reflect and relax!  As an older chick , I have had many an empty nest, in the barn yard it does not stay that way for long....those darn roosters!!!   Enough chicken scratch... Wicked out!

Local Sweet Corn

Local Sweet Corn is here....Butter and Sugar, Super Sweet 100 and Yes, Candy Corn... It's not the kind you eat on Halloween...  although I must admit, even I, a chicken with discriminating taste and an extremely refined palette, likes candy corn.  But, nothing beats the real thing.  Drew or Natasha will be picking it up every morning from the farm!  Picked Fresh.  And to melt all over your sweet corn, we also have local butter, made in Jefferson, New York.  The company's name is Cowbella.  They make butter and delicious yogurt.  Their web address is www.cowbella.com  Well, I am not only the official spokes chicken....but, the official taster...and I going for the Candy Corn!! Water...we need water!

Wow...it has been very, very hot outside!  My barn is much cooler! Natasha put a box fan in yesterday...the pigs were complaining.  You know they can't sweat and do not have great feathers like us birds... and need to lose a few pounds...anyway... they were extremely hot!  Now they are loving life in front of the fan.  Remember, when it is this hot to check on your animals regularly.  Make sure they have fresh water everyday and a place in the shade.  If you are hot and thirst your animals are too!  Stay cool!  Wicked out!

Happy Sunday!   I was watching The Today Show a few months ago and there were some great recipes for salads...Yes, my barn not only has internet, I have cable too!  I love to watch Matt Lauer, Ann Curry, Al Roker and Natalie Morales!!  Anyway  I knew Natasha was making changes to the menu, so I told her about the great new salad.   She put it on the menu and called it, The Today Show.  It is doing very well.   Now I have to come up with a way to get on the Today Show.   I am a camera ready Chick you know!  Ready for the red carpet or roost!  Come in and try the new menu!!

Cider Donuts

Early to Bed, Early to rise makes a chicken...healthy, wealthy and...anyway...I am at least healthy!    Up early making lots of fresh cider donuts, fudge and delicious pies!   We are cooking off lots of bacon...the pigs hate to hear about that!  But, it sure does smell great and even to this chicken, tastes fabulous.  Come on by for breakfast or have a great BLT for lunch, with jersey tomatoes and local lettuce.  See you soon.  Wicked Out!

Great Fireworks!!!

What a blast!  Literary....   here in the barn yard we enjoy a good show!  And last nights fireworks were great.  It tends to be a little late for us animals...we are early risers.  Some of us a little to early...Elvis!!! That is a fellow chicken ...not the singer.  Although he has quite the voice.  We have a lot of talent and good looks in this barn yard, so come on by and visit.  The gardens are very beautiful around the store; except for the on the rabbits keep eating!  I flew up to the water fall it is raging...come and enjoy.  have a sunny day and don't forget the sun screen.  Wicked out!

Wicked here...  The weather man said intermittent showers... we are ready to start walking two by two...Noah where are you.....everything is flooded around the barn!  Drew and Natasha have to plan the barn raising soon!   If you would like to join in building my new barn, let me know!  We are very dry and cozy inside, for now.  The pigs have a nice pile of ceder shavings, the goats are happy as can be, up on there hay, the horses are running around enjoying the rain...not very smart...the bunnies are all snuggled together and us birds are roostin' up high.
High and dry!  The weather man says tomorrow should be dry...we will see!  They are only intermittently correct!  Enough chicken scratch for to day!  Wicked out!

TSA...Fly with Wickrd

I love to fly!!!  It's good being a chicken!   Now that I have wi-fi...in the barn, I try and keep up, well some what, on the events of the world.   Birds are so lucky...we do not have to go through any screening process to fly where ever we want.  We do have a TSA though...It stands for Truly Smart Animals.  Almost everyone in The Catskill Mountain Country Store barnyard belongs to the TSA.  And we never wear diapers.  Well, there was the time the goat...I wont go into that...  But, we don't carry weapons, large quantities of liquids...Maybe geese! Have you ever been under a flock of geese.  They drop a lot of liquid!?!   Anyway , there aren't many terrorist in the animal kingdom.  People are supposed to be more evolved then animals...Yet, in my barn yard, people bring us our food and clean up after us... Whose's the Truly Smart Animal, TSA.... Wicked out!

BikeTrails for Families

Hi , Wicked here...I over heard Natasha talking about the family bike ride they took yesterday.  It starts in Grand Gorge N Y.    There are two tracks.  One follows the old rail road tracks all the way to Kingston, NY and the other follows the tracks to Bloomsville, NY.   They went about 10 miles and turned around.  They found turtle eggs and saw a 100' tree that had fallen down in a storm.  The kids asking to go back.  If you want the info about these trails,  you can ask Natasha or go to  http://www.bikekinetix.com/t_ny/ny_rail/catskill_scenic_rt.php  If you need more info on great family activities.  Just contact us at The Catskill Mountain Country Store.  Have a great day!  Wicked out!

Benefits

Good Morning...Cock-a-doodle-do!!!   Well I don't crow, but I have four roosters in my barn.  Talk about to many hens in the hen house...  One rooster is enough, as all you girls know!  I guess I woke up on the wrong side of the nest this morning, still a little tired.  I met a nice costumer named Micheal, from Kingston, at the store yesterday.  He was talking about all the animals he has rescued.  It is wonderful that people care about animals enough to go out of their way and help them.  Many of my fellow barn yard friends have been rescued.  Please take care of the animals you have and if you see an animal that needs help, and you do not know what to do or where to turn come ask us at The Catskill Mountain Country Store .  We will find the appropriate help. All Gods creatures  need love and respect.  Enjoy the day.  Wicked out!

Moving Up

Wow!!!   The Shuster family rushed off to the local school today.  Victoria moved up to 4th grade and Gus graduated from 6th grade.  Big doings in the people world.  Chickens are simple...we are born knowing what to do...well not really.   I have a big responsibility being a Mother Hen...telling my chicks what to do.  The saying had to come from somewhere.  The Shusters oldest, Sydney, graduates 8th grade tomorrow.  Maybe I can sneak into the school.  I don't think they let chickens in....So look for me watching from the rafters.  Congratulation Graduates!  Enjoy... Wicked out!

Strawberries, strawberries, strawberries....

The local berries are here!  Most chickens do not have a developed palate.... But I do.  Thanks to all the fine scrapes left over by the great costumers her at The Catskill Mountain Country Store.  Back to the strawberries.  I have a great recipe!  Simple.... even a chicken can make this.   One quart sliced fresh strawberries, 1/4 cup sugar, a pinch of nutmeg and a pinch of cinnamon.  Mix the sugar and spices together then add them to the strawberries.  Add the juice of 1/2 a lemon.  Mix and refrigerate for one hour.  You can eat this delicious spring treat alone or put it on ice cream or biscuits.  Or share it with the rooster and chicks of the barn.  Enjoy... weiner

The Shuster have made my hen house a hot spot for wi fi, no more flying over to the internet cafe for me. I have been following this Weiner  guy.  I don' t understand how a congressman has time to be playing around on the internet?  Takes me all day to deal with the day to day business of running a looking zoo at the Catskill Mountain Country Store. Not to mention answering my e-mails and most important taking care of my chicks and the ole rooster.  Obviously this Weiner guy needs to get his priorities in order. We know how to deal with these wackos in our hen house.Out the door they go ! Anyway that's enough venting for me. Speaking of venting, looks like summer is here...people are lining up for ice cream and lemonade...gotta go help.  Wicked out

Another hot one here in the Northern Catskill Mountains... But, our store has air condition!  Yea! So come in and eat relax, shop, sleep, well maybe not sleep.   You know, they don't allow the chickens in the store...somehow that seems all wrong, since I am the Spokes Chicken for the store.  Some people are afraid of chickens...can you believe that.  I would not hurt a fly...well...that is not really true!  I would eat a fly!  Sorry for the chicken scratch...the chicks are peeping.  Wicked Out!

Sunset

Can you believe it !!!! I can actually see the sun setting. And it feels so warm.  Yes, chickens can feel heat through their feathers.  It looks like Memorial Day weekend will be a o.k.  Let's have some positive Karma going the way of the sun!!!  Remember lots of hanging basket , annuals, vegetable and perennials here at The Catskill Mountain Country Store.  We have also started our barn yard project.  My barn yard friends and I, are going to have a new  place to live.  Wickeds' Barn Yard and Looking Zoo, all very exciting, if you ask me.  The kids are almost finished with the Bunny Condo...very proud of them...even though I did not hatch them.  Speaking of just hatched!  My chicks are very chirpy!!  The dictionary says that is a word!!!  I am getting ready to roost for the night.... break out !!!

Pretty exciting times here at The Catskill Mountain Country Store ! Last night all the mini goats were running around the entire property.Seems they broke thru the fencing and decided they wanted to taste the beautiful flowers in the greenhouse.  My chicks were laughing up a storm watching Judy track em down.Once they were back in the barn they swore me to secrecy, they have a new plan! Got up this morning and Penolope the rabbit busted thru her gate, she is strong, seems P wanted to see the new rabbit condos that Gus is building. Judy tracked her down too.Never a dull moment at The Catskill Mountain Country Store. Say hello when you visit.Wicked Out!

Baby Chick

Well, Well, Well...hatched five baby chicks today!!!  Very exciting...they will not be available to look at in the looking zoo for about two weeks.  We have to get some warmer weather.  Speaking of that, We are getting close to the no frost day for the mountain top.  The Catskill Mountain Country Store has so many nice flowers, waiting just for you! I would love to get in the greenhouse and eat some tasty flowers.  I better not, I would loose my job as spokes chicken for the store, my contract is very specific. I must get back to my chicks.  You know I am a Wicked Mama!

Wicked Blog

Good afternoon!!! I am very tired today!  Maybe it is the weather , or maybe it is the 26 eggs I am sitting on.  My sister and daughter chickens share the responsibility for keeping our eggs warm.  Not all hen houses are like that.  Maybe someone can do a reality show on me and my flock. "Wicked Chick and her faithful flock"!.... Look... there is a little bit of action at The Catskill Mountain Country Store.  Fed Ex and UPS just dropped off some boxes.  New gift items, signs with great sayings...lots of fun stuff.  Are you wondering how I know what's in the boxes?  Remember chickens can read, turkeys can not... I am going to take a look...  Think sun.  Wicked out!

Over fed

I love living at The Catskill Mountain Country Store!!!!  This weekend there were lots of scraps!!!  That means people did not clean there plates...We recycle almost everything here .  What the customers do not finish the animals get and what we can not eat goes into a compost pile.  I love the pancakes and the waffles.  The pigs love the eggs, AND why not, us chickens lay great tasting eggs.  By the way, my eggs are green...yes GREEN eggs.  I am an Arcana Chicken.  You can get ham with you green eggs.  Not from my friends the pigs.  I have tried everything at the restaurant....sooooo goood!!!  Stop by and leave a little on your plate for me.  Wicked out!

More rain More flowers!!!

It is raining again...Well, the trees and flowers like it.  The Catskill Mountain Country Store has lots of beautiful flowers for sale...and many gardens...my fellow chickens and I like to scratch the loose dirt in the gardens...we get in trouble though...sometimes it is worth it.  We go pick all the bad bugs and grubs...also ticks.  Chickens are so good, they eat all those bad ticks that cause disease.  Remember to protect your cats and dogs and to check for ticks when you come inside.  I have heard there are more ticks this year do to all the rain.  I am going to go lay an egg and take a nap.  Enjoy your day!  Wicked out!

Spring rain

It is raining here at The Catskill Mountain Country Store... I think we need the rain...but, what does a chicken know?  A lot ..Chickens are very smart...unlike turkeys, that will not get out of the rain.  They can not read either so they will not see this post.   Sorry Tom and Lisa turkey.   We are also smart enough not to invade someone elses barn yard...even if there is oil...oopps food there.. Good advice from the Chicken.  Getting late going to hop onto my roost...Wicked Out

Blogging again

WOW!!! What a great stretch of weather here in the Northern Catskills....My fellow chickens keep getting out of the pen...you know, " the grass is always greener".... Hopefully our new barn will be built this spring-summer!!!  Have a Wicked Day!
